UK to lead the way in ultra-low carbon vehicles?

Today the Government agreed the announcement of the electric vehicle grant, ahead of the completion of the spending review. The grant will be introduced from the start of 2011 and the announcement aims to send out a clear signal that Britain is committed to a green economy.

While funding proposed by the previous Government for the scheme has been reduced from £230m to £43m up to the end of March 2011, the grant aims to significantly reduce the upfront cost of buying an electric vehicle, in order to encourage greater uptake.

Here at City Car Club we’ve always kept a close eye on low carbon developments in the automobile industry because we know just how important it is both for our economy and the environment. Our fleet is carefully selected to ensure it meets our low carbon policy and we’ve recently been adding more Toyota Prius hybrid cars to our network across the UK.

Developments in electric vehicles are always exciting and while fully electric vehicles aren’t a practical option for car clubs quite yet, we welcome all initiatives which encourage people to buy into ultra-low carbon motoring.  We will continue to keep our finger on the pulse!
