City Car Club launches Wales’ first car club!

We’re delighted to have launched Wales’ first car club earlier this week and to have extended our operation to Cardiff.There are currently ten low-emission cars located in designated parking bays across the city including the city centre, Cathays, Pontcanna, Riverside, Roath and Cardiff Bay. With many more cars (and vans) planned for the coming months and years. As the UK’s leading car club, we are very excited about providing residents and businesses in Cardiff with a first-class car club service.

2011 Congestion Charge changes

From 1 January, Transport for London (TfL) will be increasing the Congestion Charge.

The good news is that if you pick up a City Car or Van whose home (bay) is inside the charging zone, we will bear the full cost of the Congestion Charge and you will not pay a penny.

Even better, thanks to their ultra-low emissions, all our Toyota Prius hybrids are Congestion Charge exempt, whether or not they live inside or outside the charging zone.

Even even better, from the end of the charging day on 4 January 2010 the charging zone will be smaller, as the Western Extension will be removed from the charging zone. For full details click here.

Unfortunately as TfL still does not except car club vehicles from the charge, from 1 January 2011, if you drive a City Car or Van which lives outside the zone and you drive it into the charging zone, we will pass on the cost at the normal rate of £10. In this situation, you don’t need to pay the charge yourself. Provided the City Car or Van was based in London, we do this on your behalf and simply add it to your monthly bill.

If you enter the charging zone in a City Car or Van from one of our Clubs outside London, you are required to pay the charge directly yourself, as non-London cars are not registered with TfL. Failure to do so will incur additional penalties levied by TfL for late payment and an administration charge of £25.

Don’t forget, the Congestion Charge is only applicable Monday to Friday between 07:00 and 18:00. TfL will also be suspending the Congestion Charge between Christmas Day and 3 January 2011.

Low-emissions Ford Fiesta ECOnetic added to the fleet

As part of our commitment to a low-emissions fleet, we have recently replaced some of our cars with brand new Ford Fiesta ECOnetics. These fantastic 5-door 1.6L diesel hatchbacks boast CO2 emissions of just 98g/km, making them the perfect car for zipping around the city or for that family weekend away.

Four ECOnetics were placed in bays across Edinburgh last week and you can book them now from the following locations:

• Sciennes Road, Sciennes, EH9 1NS
• Warrender Park Road, Marchmont, EH9 1EN
• Waterloo Place, City Centre, EH1 3TB

City Car Club expands to Edinburgh Airport with two hybrid cars!

We’ve teamed up with Edinburgh Airport to provide on-site businesses and visitors to the city with 24/7 access to pay-by-the-hour self-service cars.

Launched yesterday, two Toyota Prius hybrid cars are now located in reserved bays in the short-stay car park, directly outside the airport terminal, available to book by the hour, day, or as long as you need.

The City Cars are perfect for employees located at the airport, day visitors and business people who fly in and need quick access to a car to drive into Edinburgh or the surrounding areas.

These are the only hybrid cars available to hire from the airport, a significant introduction as the airport continually looks to lower its carbon footprint.

The cars can be booked online or by phone, in advance or at a moments notice. Members can simply walk out of the airport terminal and straight into a City Car. No paperwork, no contracts and certainly no need to pick up or drop off keys at a desk.

Toyota Prius hybrids join the CCC fleet!

City Car Club is delighted to announce that it has begun to roll out a large number of brand new, latest generation Toyota Prius hybrid cars right across the UK fleet. These ultra-low emitting, hybrid cars will make up an increasing part of the fleet and are already available to book in several cities. City Car Club – Glasgow’s official car club!

We are delighted to have been selected to operate Glasgow’s official on-street car club, in partnership with Glasgow City Council. As the UK’s most experienced car club with established operations in many other cities, we are very excited to be launching a first-class car club for residents and businesses right across the city.

The Glasgow City Car Club will launch by the end of September, and by the end of the year will have 20 cars with many more arriving in 2011 and beyond. The first phase of cars will be located primarily in the West End, with cars in the City Centre and South Side following shortly after.

We’re really excited to announce that we will very shortly be adding VW Transporter vans to our network across the UK. And the great news is that as a member of City Car Club, you be able to book in the same way as our City Cars – by the hour, day or as long as you need.

So whether you need a van for moving house, visiting the garden centre, the IKEA trip, delivering goods for your business, or just shifting bulky items, hiring a ‘City Van’ is the perfect option.

The vans will be available to rent for just £7.95/hr and £79.50 for 24 hours which offers great flexibility and value over traditional van hire.

You will find our City Vans in convenient locations across London, Edinburgh, Brighton & Hove, Bristol and Leeds (click here to see the exact locations). We will be adding more vans in more cities in the coming months.
